What is involved

William Shephard Alexander Technique Teacher

The Alexander Technique is an educational method rather than a therapy (although most people find their lessons very therapeutic, as relaxing as a massage and you are learning something) and is taught on a one-to-one basis.

Through a light touch and verbal suggestions the teacher guides the pupil to recognise how to restore a better overall balance. Practicing the Alexander Technique involves using inhibition to over-ride our habitual response when presented with any situation.

The idea is that you take away from the very first lesson tools to use which will help you with your individual area of difficulty. A lesson lasts for around 40 minutes. All you have to do is wear loose comfortable clothing and be prepared to take your shoes off. You are never too old to begin!
